Corrans Park Pumping Station

Pump overhaul and remedy

Investigation

Mr Robert Green of OIS Ltd, and contracted to WEW Engineering (formerly Adroit Treatment Systems "ATS"), became involved in the Corrans Park project in Oban on the recommendation of BBCEL.

ATS undertook the installation of a replacement set of transfer pumps which were a CE under the original contract. ATS at this stage only undertook the additional works requested under the CE. On replacement of the pumps the overall reliability and performance of the site did not show the expected improvements, this in no way is a reflection on ATS or OIS, as they had only undertaken the works that had been instructed by the SWS design consultant.

Further investigations of the site performance were undertaken by SWS along with OIS/ATS, and jointly it was determined that there were a number of issues with the original contract installation, namely the Macerators installed by a third party were installed in reverse and the overall plant control philosophy had numerous failings. ATS produced a revised control philosophy which was agreed with SWS and SW Operations.

OIS/ATS then attended site along with a software engineer from ATS to implement the revised control philosophy, recalibrate flow meters and recommission the whole site to operate under the new control regime. These works involved rectification of various PLC communications issues between Allen Bradley, Siemens PLCs and ABB drives which had never been correctly set up at initial commissioning by the SW Framework System Integrator.

All works were undertaken on a live site, that remained fully operational throughout all remedial works that were undertaken. ATS performance in relation to working on a live site and production of the required RA & MS for this type of work did not cause me any concerns and they performed well throughout the contract with all liaison and project management activities being delivered by Mr Green. Mr Green and ATS were flexible and supportive of working in a partnering environment to deliver best value throughout their involvement in this project."
